Bass Bonanza

Full-Day Everglades Peacock Bass Fishing Adventure

Water Conditions: Clear in the back bays; steady water levels maintaining strong grass lines near the main lake channels.

Conditions Overview
The largemouth bite across Lake Okeechobee remains steady, offering a great mix of high-volume numbers and high-quality fish. Current water temperatures have bass locked into early morning feeding patterns near outer vegetation edges before they pull deep into heavy shade mid-day.

Patterns & Proven Approaches
Early Morning Topwater (First Light – 9:00 AM)

Targeting the outer edges of bulrush and peppergrass along the North Shore and Monkey Box. Walking stickbaits and hollow-body frogs worked with a patient pause-and-twitch cadence are drawing heavy strikes from fish feeding on panfish schools.

Golden Shiners for Big Fish (Mid-Morning)

Drifting wild golden shiners along Kissimmee grass points near Clewiston remains the most reliable strategy for landing 6-plus pound bass. Setting up where gentle current flows out of canal cuts is producing steady multi-fish stops.

Heavy Cover Flipping (10:00 AM – Afternoon)

When the sun reaches its peak, slide into dense hydrilla and hyacinth mats. Punching a 1-oz or 1.5-oz pegged weight with a creature bait in Junebug or Black/Blue into small pockets inside the mat canopy is turning up solid 4- to 5-pounders hiding from the light.

Captain’s Advice
Line Choice: Use 50–65 lb braided line. Lake Okeechobee’s cover is unforgiving, and heavy gear is essential to control large bass in dense vegetation.

Quiet Entry: Big bass in shallow water are easily spooked. Lower the trolling motor well before reaching your target spot and let the drift bring you into position.

Summary: Bass are healthy, aggressive, and well-positioned across key vegetation cover. Whether you want to pitch live shiners or flip heavy mats, Okeechobee is delivering consistent action.

Basswhisper on the water from sunrise to sunset

Today was a fantastic day out on the water with David Lord, taking him on a Peacock Bass Fishing | Guided Fishing In The Everglades adventure with Bass Whisper Guide. February is a prime time for bass fishing in this part of Florida, as the cooler temperatures and ample rainfall create ideal conditions for the fish to be active and feeding.

We met up at 21940 Griffin Rd and got set up with all the right gear. The weather was perfect - clear skies, mild temperatures, and calm water. As we started working our way through the Everglades, it didn't take long before David's line started peeling off. He set the hook and was into his first Florida Bass of the day, a nice chunky one that put up a great fight. We continued working the area, and soon enough, he hooked into a beautiful Butterfly Peacock Bass, an amazing-looking fish with its vibrant colors and unique patterns. The action stayed steady, and David managed to land a few more Largemouth Black Bass, all healthy, eager biters.

Between catches, we got to take in the beautiful Everglades scenery - the towering cypress trees draped in Spanish moss, the glimpses of wading birds and gators, and the peaceful, glassy water. It was just the perfect setting to spend a relaxing day chasing these incredible gamefish. David was all smiles the whole time, clearly loving the experience of targeting Peacock Bass and other species in this unique fishery.

If you're looking to experience some of the best freshwater fishing Florida has to offer, I highly recommend booking a Peacock Bass Fishing | Guided Fishing In The Everglades trip with Bass Whisper Guide. Whether you're a seasoned angler after trophy fish or just want to enjoy a fun, action-packed day on the water, we'll make sure you have an unforgettable adventure.
